All Things Akashic Records with Desiree Sparrow

Hey fellow #w3llnessjunkies!

When I first decided to get this blog going, I didn’t just want it to be a place for me to spew ideas. I wanted it to eventually become a community. A  place where people would feel comfortable learning about & discussing wellness topics on a number of levels, in a safe and positive way. Ironically, the first person I have decided to interview for my #W3llTribeSeries is not only one of my mentors, but also living what it means to create to such a tribe. As the founder of LI Kula Yoga and Wellness Center in Bellport, NY, Desiree Sparrow has built a space that hundreds of yogis consider their second home. It is safe, it is welcoming and above all else, it is accepting. (Not to mention the word “Kula” literally means “community” in Sanskirt!)

I decided to begin with  Desiree because in addition to being one of my most influential teachers, she is also someone who has inspired me to truly show up to life as my most authentic self. Wife, Mother, Teacher, Healer and Intuitive. These are just a few of the many titles she goes by. However, I have a strong suspicion she’ll certainly continue adding to that list.

My journey began with Desiree a few years back when I enrolled in her 200 hour yoga teacher training program at LI Kula. Over the course of the six month program Desiree immersed my classmates and I in a world of healing and spirituality that I had never before been exposed to. (And by the end, I was hooked!) During this time Desiree was also just beginning to offer Akashic Records Readings to the public. Although I knew very little about what the service actually was, I was eager to try.

After having had multiple healings with Des and sending basically everyone in my life to see her, I knew I had to have her (and her infinite wisdom) on this blog!

So, if you’re interested in learning more about what Akashic Records Readings are all about, check out my chat with Des below.

Can you describe in your own words a little bit about your journey? How did you get started and why?

DS: Well, my awareness of my spiritual journey began shortly after I started practicing yoga about 20 years ago.  I did not initially know that yoga would change my life & I certainly did not expect that it would be the place where I would expand my spirituality & consciousness.

My yoga practice showed me how to live a more authentic life.  Yoga cracked me opened & turned me inside out.  The process was intense & at times painful, but I know now that it was all necessary in order to get very clear about who I was.  So, as I practiced clearing my vessel (mind, body & spirit) the voice that always existed in me became more audible.  From there, the Seeker within began searching. In my exploration I found Meditation, Reiki, Energy Medicine & The Akashic Records.

When did you know you were ready to venture into owning your own business?

DS: This might sound odd, but I always knew.  I opened my first yoga studio in Bay Shore (Long Island), while I was completing my first 200hr Yoga Teacher Training.  For some reason I felt that there was an urgency to start teaching others the magic of yoga.  My business expanded from there. I eventually started offering other healing modalities like Reiki, Energy Medicine, Akashic Records Readings & Healings in addition to my yoga classes & trainings.

How did you make that jump into the unknown? What were some of the biggest struggles for you during that period?

DS: I listened to that voice.  Whenever I listen to IT (the voice), it never steers me in the wrong direction.  I guess you could say that that voice is the sound of my truth.   I practiced listening & discovered a life filled with so my love, honesty & magic.

The biggest challenges I faced definitely occurred when I was caught up in my EGO.  I knew the voice that resided in me would never steer me in the wrong direction, but my EGO told me something different.  The voice of my EGO, never really served me.  This voice also created confusion for me which made me extremely reactive & often irrational. Now I can identify this voice when it emerges & lower the volume on the THAT channel. With practice I have learned to listen for clarity more & more.

How did you know you were ready to expand your business to include Akashic Records? Was it always something that interested you?

DS: As my teaching progressed and I evolved in many ways, the universe then provided me with guidance to move towards this work.  I practiced opening my own Records first which was an amazing revelation for me.  I somehow knew that if I were offered the opportunity, I would provide this service to others.

Yes, esoteric teachings always seemed to interest me, but I don’t think that I would have fully absorbed the teachings and practice of The Akashic Records without the help of my Yoga & Meditation practice.  I believe that those practices prepared me for this work.

For someone who has never heard of it, what is it?

DS: The Akashic Records are the record of your soul’s journey.  The Akashic energy holds all of your thoughts, feelings, actions and deeds from this lifetime and from previous lifetimes.

You can imagine that the Akashic Records are like a database system of your Soul & Soul’s Journey with all of your information stored in the hard drive.

The Akashic Records are part of the Etheric or Akashic Field that is a part of and is connected to everyone and everything. Think of a web, we are all connected in this web. In Sanskrit, Akasha means “ether” or “vast space” which is boundless and each of us are made up of Akasha. When we peel away our layers, the true nature of who we really are is revealed. We often forget that our essential nature is Boundless, Limitless & Free.

In this work, we get to explore the magic of our infinite selves. Not only does this provide space for asking some of life’s most challenging questions, but it also supplies us with the ability to receive very CLEAR answers on how to resolve them.

What does a reading typically look like?

DS: This is a tough question to answer because just as each Soul is unique, each reading is also unique.  Sometimes, deceased loved ones will enter the space or a past life memory will be a part of the reading.

But in a nutshell, each session starts with a Meditation, Prayer and Invocation which allows your SOUL to receive deep Healing & Guidance.  Once this happens, we enter the realm of your Soul and your Soul’s records where you are able to connect with it on a very deep level. In this space you can receive anything from messages, important information regarding your path, and the healing you are seeking on a Soul level.

What are the benefits of something like that?

DS: I think when people hear their Soul’s message it is validating on so many levels.   A lot of what is said in the reading is information that the client already knew, but the validation offers them so much peace.  It really is a beautiful thing to witness.

How do you know you’re seeing someone reputable?

DS: I am not sure how to answer this, but I will try.  In the esoteric realm the idea of certificates or our titles is a foreign concept.  Spirit does not really care about having a PHD in this or that.  (I know, because this comes up in readings).  However, referrals from people you trust is a good way to seek out a skilled reader. Clients can also read testimonials. However, I would ultimately recommend going with your gut.  It is sort of like trying a new class or restaurant for the first time,  you just have to check it out for yourself, in order to know if the reader is the right fit for you.

I have a few Akashic Records Certifications, but I only obtained those for personal knowledge & spiritual growth.  I never really intended to do healings or readings, but I was led to do this work & it really has helped so many people, which is such a gift for me.  People’s souls are beautiful & I am honored to be able to interact with their inner light.

For someone who wants to more deeply connect with their own spiritual side, how/where do you recommend they start?

DS: Spirituality is such a personal practice.  There are countless practices out there but the truth is that many people are TRYING very hard to be Spiritual or in some cases they are trying really hard to be non-spiritual.  We as humans complicate things & then our spirituality may even become a task or too sterile. The truth is that our spirituality already exists within us, we just have to figure out how to unleash it.  I  was brought up Roman Catholic but was not very spiritual when I was young.  It wasn’t until I stumbled upon Yoga that I became a very spiritual person.   However, as I said previously, I did not know that Yoga would do that for me.  I was very naive but open to the practices and this served me well.  I was also never rigid about my practice which offered me tremendous growth. I believe that my soul was just ready to be rebirthed & the universe provided.  Again, my initial outlet was Yoga but for someone else it may be something else.  I think the first step is to simply be willing to listen & divinely guided towards the Source.

Practice being empty & just ask Space, The Universe, Your Angels, The Divine, God, or whatever you want to call it, to show up & guide you-I promise you that IT is listening & has your back.  Trust in the process.  It really is a matter of softening & not forcing your spiritual practice, the expansion will happen if you allow it.

Like an exhale, in the pause, or in between sound, this is where the magic is.  This is doorway to your expansion….have fun & enjoy the ride!
